Greetings, traveler!

By some stroke of luck, you have managed to wander upon the portfolio of a Mr. Joseph Gomez. I sincerely hope you enjoy your visit. The restroom is down the hall to the left, and your room will be to the right. There should be a plethora of snacks in the fridge, a copy of Julius Caesar's The Gallic Wars on the nightstand, and Meditations by Marcus Aurelius under your pillow. Don't mind the cat, she shouldn't bite.

About Me

I'm a December graduate of Willamette University with a strong background in history, education, media studies, and writing. I'm excited to pursue work that investigates, instructs, and preserves the history and cultures of the ancient world. But when not talking your ear off about ancient history, I am most likely trying to record you acting naturally for my videos or other journalistic endeavors. I am currently working with Former Bend, OR Mayor Jeff Eager on The Oregon Roundup, a local newsletter for Oregonians.

I often volunteered at the Peninsula Humane Society, SPCA, and Samaritan House. I also was a former Co-Founder of the Carlmont Cinematic Arts Club and a member of CTTA and Philosophy Club at Carlmont High School.

At Willamette, I was a Classics Tutor, VP of Willamette University College Republicans, and Associated Students of Willamette University Senator 2021.

For my PPLE thesis, I researched and interviewed political scientists, political party and organization leaders, data analysts, and congressmen to form a proposal for adopting a multi-member district system with a cumulative ranked-choice electoral system in Oregon. I did this with the goals of both accurately representing minority groups and opinions while amending the flaws of plurality single-member districts.

For my Classics thesis, I translated and analyzed Horace's Odes 1.12 under a political lens to claim that scholarly consensus on the poem's Pindaric themes is exaggerated, offering instead a theory that the work's purpose serves as propaganda to glorify Augustus and the Principate while alluding to the Emperor's divinity.

Additionally, I researched and held listening circles at Willamette University and the Oregon State Penitentiary for crime victims and survivors to propose a revised Victim’s Bill of Rights and expand victims' services. This was a project of the Transformative Justice Initiative at Willamette University for which I was a contributor to Crime Victims and Survivors for Transformation (CVAST).
